Learner's licence test day: what to expect
Updated 2026-10-31 · Unofficial guide · Always confirm details with gov.za / your DLTC
On test day, arrive early with your ID and booking details, complete the document check and eye test if not done already, then write the test. Results are usually given on the day; a learner's licence is valid for 24 months.
Before the test
- Arrive early — queues are common.
- Bring your ID, booking confirmation and glasses if needed.
During the test
Answer questions for all three sections. Read carefully; you may not use notes or phones.
After the test
If you pass you pay for and receive your learner's licence, valid for 24 months — book your driving test within that time. If you fail, see re-test guide.
