How much does a learner's licence cost?
Updated 2026-10-31 · Unofficial guide · Always confirm details with gov.za / your DLTC
Learner's licence fees are set provincially and change from time to time, so there is no single national price. You typically pay a test/booking fee and a fee for the learner's licence certificate once you pass. Check your DLTC or provincial transport department for current amounts.
What you pay for
- Booking / application and test fee
- Learner's licence certificate fee after passing
- Re-test fee if you fail
Why we don't list one price
Fees differ between provinces and are updated periodically. Any fixed figure online may be out of date — confirm on the NaTIS portal when booking, or with your DLTC.
